It’s very important to me that my women are beautiful and powerful. Beautiful women are a joy to draw, but I find artists depictions of women can be quite passive, so I wanted to make my women real, emotive, strong characters with a powerful origin story.

I describe my style as a cross between pop art and comic book art. I’ve honed it over the last decade and have been hugely influenced by both of these things. I also look to fashion and beauty photography and the media for inspiration, along with issues that are important to me like feminism and equality.

I’ve been an illustrator for almost 10 years but never actually studied art, in fact I studied zoology at university. I have always been fascinated by the parallels between human and animal behaviour, and love drawing interactions between the two. I’m particularly starstruck by big cats, which is where the name ‘LeopardsLunch’ came from. All humans are equal in the eyes of a big cat… “to a leopard we are all lunch”

HOW WE DISCOVERED
kate philipson

Octopus Girl.

That’s how we discovered Kate.
That damn Octopus Girl.

It must have been around November/December 2021 when we were discussing creating an NFT project and when we saw those tentacles draped across the face of a beautifully drawn black and white stunner, we fell in love.

As is the case in the NFT space, it’s nearly impossible to keep up with everything and everyone and recently we were listening to a Twitter Space called ‘Fangirl Friday’ and instantly recognised the comic book x pop art style that we hadn’t seen for a while! We reached out to say hello and consider Kate a good friend in this space.

“There’s an amazing NFT community, with a lot of help on offer to market your art and build a following. It’s a steep learning curve but I’m loving it so far.”

upcoming work

I was considering giving up illustration when I minted my first NFT.

I had become disillusioned with working on client projects and constantly grinding to get work.
NFTs have changed that for me, I’m able to be creative and can actually call myself an artist.

My upcoming work will be a continuation of this renewed creativity.

I’m excited to continue my series of 1/1 Nudes and Wild Ones and hope to collaborate with other NFT artists.

I’m also building myself to find stamina to create  another frame animation.
